Harris Psychology
Evidence-based care for your cognitive, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Our approach
Harris Psychology uses a range of evidence-based psychological practices to provide tailored assessment and treatment for a range of concerns. Booking in with a psychologist can sometimes feel uncomfortable, so below is an outline of the process that we use.
Step 1: In your first appointment, (a.k.a., ‘initial consultation’), your psychologist will ask you several questions about your background and history, as well as listen to the main concerns and goals that you have in psychological treatment. You also have the chance during this appointment to ask questions about your treatment, the methods, or goals.
Step 2: Sometimes a diagnostic assessment may be recommended to provide diagnostic clarification or better understand your strengths and weaknesses in order to guide treatment. Your psychologist will discuss this with you at the end of the first session.
Step 3: After the initial consultation, tailored, individual psychological treatment sessions will be conducted. The content and approach of these sessions depend upon your goals and concerns coming into psychological treatment. The approach can be discussed with you and may change as you progress in treatment. These sessions last for 50 minutes. The frequency of these sessions can vary, though typically people choose to see a psychologist every 1-4 weeks whilst in active treatment.
Step 4: Every 4-6 sessions, your psychologist will write a progress letter back to your GP or referrer and review your treatment goals and progress. If you were not referred by a GP or other medical practitioner, then your treatment needs will be reviewed and/or discussed with you within a similar time interval.
